Bread Making Workshops in Spain
Nothing beats the smell of freshly baked bread in the morning… Always wanted to know how it’s made?
We offer the opportunity to spend a whole midweek learning new skills in baking bread in a beautiful mountainous environment. A bread holiday with us means nothing but to indulge yourself in bread, enjoyment, relaxation, and the company of like-minded individuals!
In 2018, Bas (owner and chef of Masia de Matuta) had his first bread making course himself in a beautiful original windmill in the Netherlands. Right at that moment, the bread making spark hit him and would never leave him anymore. Bas started to experiment a lot during his free time at his home. Four years later, in 2022, Bas had the opportunity to learn from the best! Robèrt van Beckhoven, Master Pastry Chef and Master Boulanger, tasted his sourdough and loved it. He learned new techniques and all kinds of bread and pastries. Now it is time to transfer his passion and love for bread baking to you!

What They Say About Us
The workshop gave me the confidence to start my own mini-bakery
During our visit this summer I had the chance to participate in Bas’ bread workshop, and it was an amazing experience. Bas is a true master in baking bread, and I have always wanted to learn how to do it myself. Throughout the morning he took the time to explain different techniques, from using the right ingredients to the tricks of kneading dough. For example, I learned when to use yeast and when not to use it, and gained insight into the entire process.
The workshop was not only educational, but also a lot of fun! At the end of the day I went home with some fantastic recipes, a list of exactly the right ingredients to get started with, and the homemade bread we made during the workshop.
It took some getting used to at first, but thanks to Bas’ clear explanation I now bake beautiful breads. As of today I even sell my homemade bread, and it is very popular! This workshop not only taught me the basics, but also gave me the confidence to start my own mini-bakery. Bas, thank you for the inspiring and educational morning!
A true experience from start to finish
If you’re looking to truly treat yourself to something special, Bas and Sara’s Bread Making Holiday is an absolute must.
Everything is just right — from Sara’s warm welcome and heartfelt hospitality to Bas’s calm, clear guidance. The location is breathtaking, the meals are delicious, and you leave not only with a bag full of freshly baked bread, but also with a head full of knowledge and a heart full of inspiration.
It’s an intensive course where you don’t just watch — you roll up your sleeves and get to work. You’ll learn to bake different kinds of bread, with a focus on both technique and intuition. For me, it was the perfect beginning to further develop my baking skills. A truly unique experience I can recommend to anyone.
What an incredible experience it was!
In early June, my daughter and I took part in a five-day bread-baking course. What an incredible experience it was!
You arrive in a lush, green setting and immediately feel the peace and quiet. After a warm welcome from Sara, we met the other participants and Bas later that afternoon. On the very first evening, we were treated to a delicious dinner — a perfect way to start.
What followed were three full days of Bas’s bread-baking course. With great enthusiasm, he taught us everything about different types of flour and a variety of techniques. They were intense days, but we had so much fun and learned an incredible amount. I won’t spoil all the details here — it’s something you really have to experience for yourself.
With Bas’s passion and expertise, you learn to bake all kinds of bread. It truly was a fantastic experience, with beautiful accommodation, wonderful food and drinks, and plenty of time to relax.
The moment I got home, I ordered the materials we had used during the course so that we could start enjoying freshly baked rolls and bread at home too.
Once again, a huge thank you for these delightful and educational days.
